[LDN] Tea at the National Dining Rooms

Tea series -
更具體地說,a series in search of London's best scone

In my humble opinion,

OKAY enough bs,
National Dining Rooms (at the National Gallery) 開始.

You can't go more British than this...

Okay maybe you can.
But it's close (location-wise). So here I am.

我們倆分別點了 a Cream tea and an Afternoon tea.

In case

Cream tea = scone + tea.
Afternoon tea = scone + tea + other fancy savory and sweet items.

Note:
subjective perception of the perfect scone。

First impression: Warm. Slightly dark. Tall and big.

Sweetness:
Texture: ½☆

A firm scone, 但如上圖可見,too bread-like.
Buttery, but not flakey enough.

Condiments: ★☆

A big generous scope of clotted cream is served alongside the scone.
Smooth and rich, though somewhat flavorless to me.

Raspberry jam (with lots of seeds) on the table is decent, if not ordinary.

Afternoon tea...

Sweet side first - banoffee pie, chocolate hazelnut mousse and heart-shaped pastry with cream and strawberry jam

Savory - Egg, cucumber, chicken and ham sandwiches (zzz)

Environment: ★★½☆

Friendly service.

Value:

Cream tea £7
Afternoon tea £17
